We love the H910 and until the end of the month you can pick it up for only $99 from Eventide. Here it is showcased in a beat made by Headsnack. Thickening up the keyboard adds subtle harmonics and allows it to sit nicely in the mix.

Mogees analyzes vibrations you create from everyday objects and turns it into music. The more distinct the hits are, the better the software works. Use your imagination and assign the different sounds within the software to whatever sounds you desire. The Akai MPC is one of the most iconic machines in the lore of hip-hop music. This video is a cool little history with great interviews from an eclectic mix of artists that use the production center in unique ways. If you dig this, also check out Dubspot's feature on sampling with the producer pioneer, Lord Finesse. Without the TR-808, hip-hop and other forms of electronic music would not be what they are today. Many don't know that when this machine was released it was a complete failure. It was meant to be an accompaniment machine for guitarists and bassists. When the earliest audience realized they didn't like it, they wound up on the second hand market such as in pawn shops. This is where early hiphop producers found the device, detuned and warped the original sounds to turn the kick into the famed sub 808 sound that has made a resurgence in today's tracks. Check out this cool video where the machine is opened up and explored. The people at MusicalBrick are huge fans of the band Genesis and have created their own legos to pay tribute. Check out the wicked Mellotron as featured in Watcher of the Skies and be sure to peep their site if you dig Peter Gabriel.

Printed MIDI is a combination of printed capacitive touch, MIDI processing, and BlueTooth. It can potential turn any surface into a MIDI controller as demonstrated by DJ QBert's album cover. It uses Apple MIDI Bluetooth protocol and can be used to control a variety of MIDI enabled applications on computer, smartphone, an tablet. We think it's downright bananas. This hybrid keyboard is made for two to play at once. It's part sampler, part super collider synth engine. The prototype, double granular synth was developed by researchers, Fiore Martin and Ben Bengler. Trainer extraordinaire, Matt Cellitti just got Native Instruments "Flesh" and shows us how he messed around with it, the first 5 minutes of ever using it. Seems like a really cool beat gridded sampler that manipulates audio akin to a few other programs we've seen, but in a slick NI fashion. We can't wait to get our hands on it! |
