Fission is a brand new, ground-breaking plug-in that does something entirely new to audio. It allows you to split a sound into its transient and tonal parts, independently manipulate them using Eventide's world-class effects and then fuse them back together. With the ability to add effects and dynamic controls to the transient and tonal sections, you can produce a wide range of effects, from the subtle to the extreme. This video shows a track we made using 10 different instances of Eventide Fission. This is a great example of how to use the plug-in for sound design.

The guys over at andvinyly.com have figured out a way to press cremated ashes into a vinyl record. This is a great way to be remembered for as long as the earth keeps producing people that make turntables. Record a story from your loved one, put their favorite music on it (or tunes they created), etc. TrainingSnacks was present at the NAMM convention in Anaheim, CA and found some real intriguing gear! Here's a small sampling of some of the cool stuff such as the Akai MPC-X, Dave Smith/Pioneer SP-16, and Genelec 1237 monitors.
Attention audiophiles! If you've ever wanted to be a fly on the wall during famous recording sessions, this is your chance. The new podcast "Gear Club" which can also be found on Soundcloud and the Gear-Club website, is full of funny & interesting stories about recording techniques and gear.
Now you can listen to legendary producer/engineers John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile, Aerosmith) and Stewart Lerman (Sharon Van Etten, Shawn Colvin, Bob Dylan, Boardwark Empire) wax poetic about studio gear. The contest starts today and ends on December 15th, 2016. Seattle-based songwriter/producer Symbion Project (a.k.a. Kasson Crooker) has been creating eclectic electronic music for the past two decades, ranging from cinematic downtempo to IDM/techno to classical synthesizer music. In addition to founding synthpop legends Freezepop, Kasson is a videogame composer with music featured in interactive music games like Amplitude and RockBand, and is currently scoring the indie-game Shard.

Download the stems here! The Samchillian is a project by Leon Greenbaum. Its a keyboard MIDI controller based on relativity. All keys are relative notes which means less, keys, but the ability to play in key with mind-blowing speed. It uses a wireless connection with a modular design that can easily be customized. Progressive NY artist, Gruenbaum, uses the Samchillian on his new EP which can be purchased from Agenda Del Mondo Records via Bandcamp. We recently had a chance to listen to it and it as beautiful sounding as it is evil. We highly recommend you checking it out if you're into experimental music. One of our staff writers, Headsnack, has been featured on American Music Supply's "Catch a Break" series! In this interview he breaks down why he uses Adam Audio monitors & the Moog Sub 37 Tribute on his tracks. You can also read some of Headsnack's tech gear buyer's guides right here! We love the H910 and until the end of the month you can pick it up for only $99 from Eventide. Here it is showcased in a beat made by Headsnack. Thickening up the keyboard adds subtle harmonics and allows it to sit nicely in the mix. The Akai MPC is one of the most iconic machines in the lore of hip-hop music. This video is a cool little history with great interviews from an eclectic mix of artists that use the production center in unique ways. If you dig this, also check out Dubspot's feature on sampling with the producer pioneer, Lord Finesse. |
